“Tabay” is a visayan term which refers to a source of water that is shared by the community. This is their primary source of water for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, physical hygiene, and environmental sanitation. In Purok 3, Barangay Lindang, there have been identified two sources of water situated in two different puroks. The said tabay is also separated into two. The first tabay is exclusively for water drinking, while the other is for the other needs stated above. These two sources of water cater the need of every resident in barangay Lindang. The same goes for other puroks.
On the other hand, the word “bai” is also a visayan term that means brother. This is commonly used by the visayan when they call their brothers, may it be biological or social. This represents their great trust and close friendship with a person. A “bai” is someone you can lean on and count on especially at hard times. He is a brother you can ask for help anytime, and without fail, will always lend you a hand. |
The group being immersed in the community for three weeks gave birth to a name that explains the readiness of the residents in Lindang to help in times of need and to become a brother or sister you can count on --- this is the “Team Ta’Bai”.
Team ta’bai is the community residents themselves with additional members, the medical students. We will work hand in hand towards the goal of safe and clean water. This is the first prioritized community health plan by the community residents during the core group meeting and barangay assembly --- “Linaw na tubig. ara sa katawhan.” Like brothers and sisters, we will work together towards a healthier and happier community. The barangay officials and the medical students will devote their time and efforts in budget allocation and finding external sources of funding for safe and accessible water. Together with the community residents we envision a progress of level I water to level II source. On the process of budget allocation and funding solicitation, we will work together for the maintenance of cleanliness in the said tabays. It is essential for the barangay officials to reinforce proper waste disposal in the vicinity of the tabay, while the community residents will respond appropriately by maintaining its cleanliness. The medical students will dwell more in health teachings regarding the advantages and disadvantages of proper water sanitation. With this in mind, the team ta’bai will work collectively in three divisions addressing the needs of the water accessibility, cleanliness, and safety. |
